"Shri Hari Stotram," a hymn composed by the great saint and philosopher, Sri Adi Shankaracharya. This hymn is dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his various forms, praising his divine attributes and seeking his blessings. Let's go through the meaning of each verse:

Verse 1:

ಜಗಜ್ಜಾಲಪಾಲಂ ಕನತ್ಕಂಠಮಾಲಂ

ಶರಚ್ಚಂದ್ರಫಾಲಂ ಮಹಾದೈತ್ಯಕಾಲಮ್ ।

ನಭೋನೀಲಕಾಯಂ ದುರಾವಾರಮಾಯಂ

ಸುಪದ್ಮಾಸಹಾಯಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 1 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, the protector of the universe, whose neck is adorned with a garland of skulls, who holds the moon as his crown, and who is the time of great destruction for the mighty demons. He has a deep blue complexion, is difficult to access, and is the one with beautiful lotus-like eyes. I seek refuge in Him."

Verse 2:

ಸದಾಂಭೋಧಿವಾಸಂ ಗಲತ್ಪುಷ್ಪಹಾಸಂ

ಜಗತ್ಸನ್ನಿವಾಸಂ ಶತಾದಿತ್ಯಭಾಸಮ್ ।

ಗದಾಚಕ್ರಶಸ್ತ್ರಂ ಲಸತ್ಪೀತವಸ್ತ್ರಂ

ಹಸಚ್ಚಾರುವಕ್ತ್ರಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 2 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, who always resides in the ocean of nectar, whose smile is like blossoming flowers, the abode of the entire universe, whose brilliance outshines that of a hundred suns. He holds a mace, a discus, and a sword, wears radiant yellow garments, and has a charming, smiling face."

Verse 3:

ರಮಾಕಂಠಹಾರಂ ಶ್ರುತಿವ್ರಾತಸಾರಂ

ಜಲಾಂತರ್ವಿಹಾರಂ ಧರಾಭಾರಹಾರಮ್ ।

ಚಿದಾನಂದರೂಪಂ ಮನೋಜ್ಞಸ್ವರೂಪಂ

ಧೃತಾನೇಕರೂಪಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 3 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, who wears a garland of forest flowers, whose essence is revealed in the Vedas, who enjoys sporting in the waters, the remover of the burden of the earth. He is the embodiment of pure bliss, possesses a charming form, and manifests in multiple divine forms. I adore Him."

Verse 4:

ಜರಾಜನ್ಮಹೀನಂ ಪರಾನಂದಪೀನಂ

ಸಮಾಧಾನಲೀನಂ ಸದೈವಾನವೀನಮ್ ।

ಜಗಜ್ಜನ್ಮಹೇತುಂ ಸುರಾನೀಕಕೇತುಂ

ತ್ರಿಲೋಕೈಕಸೇತುಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 4 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, who is beyond the cycle of birth and death, the source of supreme bliss, always immersed in tranquil meditation, perpetually free from worldly entanglements. He is the cause of the creation of the universe, the banner of the gods, and the sole support of the three worlds."

Verse 5:

ಕೃತಾಮ್ನಾಯಗಾನಂ ಖಗಾಧೀಶಯಾನಂ

ವಿಮುಕ್ತೇರ್ನಿದಾನಂ ಹರಾರಾತಿಮಾನಮ್ ।

ಸ್ವಭಕ್ತಾನುಕೂಲಂ ಜಗದ್ವೃಕ್ಷಮೂಲಂ

ನಿರಸ್ತಾರ್ತಶೂಲಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 5 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, who is praised in the Vedas, the king of birds, who rides on Garuda, the liberator of the distressed, the vanquisher of the god of love. He is always favorable to his devotees, the root of the world tree, and the one who has eradicated the spear of suffering."

Verse 6:

ಸಮಸ್ತಾಮರೇಶಂ ದ್ವಿರೇಫಾಭಕೇಶಂ

ಜಗದ್ಬಿಂಬಲೇಶಂ ಹೃದಾಕಾಶವೇಶಮ್ ।

ಸದಾ ದಿವ್ಯದೇಹಂ ವಿಮುಕ್ತಾಖಿಲೇಹಂ

ಸುವೈಕುಂಠಗೇಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 6 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, who is the lord of all celestial beings, the enemy of the demon Pura, the ruler of the universe, and the controller of the heart like the sky. He possesses a divine form at all times, free from any material contamination. He is the abode of Vaikuntha, the supreme spiritual realm."

Verse 7:

ಸುರಾಲೀಬಲಿಷ್ಠಂ ತ್ರಿಲೋಕೀವರಿಷ್ಠಂ

ಗುರೂಣಾಂ ಗರಿಷ್ಠಂ ಸ್ವರೂಪೈಕನಿಷ್ಠಮ್ ।

ಸದಾ ಯುದ್ಧಧೀರಂ ಮಹಾವೀರವೀರಂ

ಭವಾಂಭೋಧಿತೀರಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 7 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, who is offered sacrifices by the celestials, the supreme ruler of the three worlds, the foremost among gurus, and whose divine form is unparalleled. He is perpetually valiant in battles, the great hero among heroes, and the one who has crossed the ocean of existence."

Verse 8:

ರಮಾವಾಮಭಾಗಂ ತಲಾಲಗ್ನನಾಗಂ

ಕೃತಾಧೀನಯಾಗಂ ಗತಾರಾಗರಾಗಮ್ ।

ಮುನೀಂದ್ರೈಸ್ಸುಗೀತಂ ಸುರೈಸ್ಸಂಪರೀತಂ

ಗುಣೌಘೈರತೀತಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಂ ಭಜೇಽಹಮ್ ॥ 8 ॥

Translation:

"I worship Lord Hari, whose left side is adorned by the goddess Lakshmi, who reclines on the serpent Ananta, willingly submitting to the authority of the sages, and who effortlessly consumes the ocean of dissolution. He is praised by the sages and the gods, beyond the limitations of material qualities."

Verse 9:

ಫಲಶ್ರುತಿ ।

ಇದಂ ಯಸ್ತು ನಿತ್ಯಂ ಸಮಾಧಾಯ ಚಿತ್ತಂ

ಪಠೇದಷ್ಟಕಂ ಕಂಠಹಾರಂ ಮುರಾರೇಃ ।

ಸ ವಿಷ್ಣೋರ್ವಿಶೋಕಂ ಧ್ರುವಂ ಯಾತಿ ಲೋಕಂ

ಜರಾಜನ್ಮಶೋಕಂ ಪುನರ್ವಿಂದತೇ ನೋ ॥ 9 ॥

Translation:

"Phala Shruti: Whoever, with a focused mind, regularly recites this Necklace of Verses (Kanthaharam) of Lord Hari, composed by Mura's enemy (Shankaracharya), will undoubtedly attain the abode of Lord Vishnu, free from sorrow, transcending the cycle of birth and death."

This hymn beautifully expresses the devotion and praise of Lord Hari, emphasizing his various divine qualities and the benefits of chanting this stotram.
